Nanzōin Temple in Sasaguri Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a special head temple of the Kōyasan Shingon sect renowned for its world-class bronze statue of the Reclining Buddha, measuring 41 meters in total length. Famous as a sacred site for financial fortune since its head priest won the lottery, it remains a power spot attracting numerous visitors from Japan and abroad in 2025.
The Former Shime Mining Company Vertical Shaft Tower in Shime Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, is a massive coal mine structure built by the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1943, standing approximately 47.6 meters tall. Its “winding tower type” design, featuring a hoist installed at the top, is an extremely rare structure with only three such towers remaining worldwide. It was designated a National Important Cultural Property in 2009. Although its interior is currently closed to the public, its overwhelming presence continues to endear it as a “sacred ruin” and symbol of the town, even in 2025.
